Project. Exit: Typographic Self-promotion

Purpose. To initiate an involvement with the design industry by making a contributionto it. Through collaboration with peers in a learning environment, members of theprofessional design industry/academic community, students plan, develop, and produce small scale design projects with relative independence.

Assignment. This is a project for third year sudents. As a self-initiated project and within a historical context, students push the practical/theorectical boundaries of typographic function and conception. A lecturer serves as an advisor guiding the student to structure a path towards a research methodology and implementation to achieve a successful outcome.

Format. Multi-surfaced and variable to suit projected outcome

Time. 16 weeks.

 
   

Gilberto Andrès Salinas was born 1967 in El Paso, Texas. Andrès was educated inthe Midwest at Southern Illinois University School of Art & Design in Carbondale, earning a Bachelor of Art degree in Design Communication in 1993, conferred a Master of Art and Master of Fine Arts degree in Design from the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History graduating cum laude in 2001. Andrès is currently a full time lecturer at the Wanganui School of Design in New Zealand, where he is recognised with national awards by the Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ) for excellence as a graphic design educator in 2002 and 2004. Andrès is also an active member of the Icograda Education Network (IEN) participating in the international collaborative design project Connect.’ Outside of his role as a design educator, Andrès is a designer and sculptor, researching hybrid typography as contemporary furniture/storage systems.
